Crispy Homemade Egg Rolls

Egg rolls

  • 1 package of egg roll wrappers (usually contains around 15 wrappers)
  • 1 pound ground pork or chicken
  • 1 cup shredded cabbage
  • 1 cup shredded carrots
  • 1/2 cup finely chopped onions
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon ginger, grated
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • Sweet and sour sauce or soy sauce for dipping

  1. Prepare Filling:
    • In a large pan, cook the ground pork or chicken over medium heat until fully cooked. Drain any excess fat.
    • Add onions and garlic to the pan and sauté until they become translucent.
    • Add shredded cabbage and carrots. Cook for a few minutes until the vegetables are softened.
    • Stir in soy sauce, oyster sauce, sesame oil, ginger, salt, and pepper. Mix well. Taste and adjust the seasonings if needed.
  2. Assemble Egg Rolls:
    • Lay an egg roll wrapper on a clean surface with one corner pointing towards you (diamond shape).
    • Place a spoonful of the filling in the center of the wrapper.
    • Fold the bottom corner over the filling and tuck it under the filling.
    • Fold the side corners towards the center.
    • Roll the wrapper tightly away from you, sealing the final corner with a dab of water to secure the edge.
  3. Heat Oil for Frying:
    • In a large, deep skillet or pot, heat vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C).
  4. Fry Egg Rolls:
    • Carefully place a few egg rolls into the hot oil, seam side down, without overcrowding the pan.
    • Fry until golden brown and crispy, turning occasionally for even cooking. It usually takes about 3-4 minutes per batch.
  5. Drain and Serve:
    • Remove the egg rolls from the oil and place them on paper towels to drain excess oil.
    • Serve the crispy egg rolls with your favorite dipping sauce, such as sweet and sour sauce or soy sauce.
  6. Enjoy:
    • Your homemade crispy egg rolls are ready to be enjoyed as a delicious appetizer or snack!
